Early Lights

Lots of controversy these days that Christmas lights shouldn’t be put up until after November 11th in honour of our veterans.

I certainly believe in honouring veterans young and old, everywhere, that have enabled us to live the life we have today with all its freedom and goodness. We take so much for granted, and often fail to see tiny bits of it being taken silently away.

But what does that have to do with Christmas lights? Personally I don’t want to see a single Christmas light until the 1st of December. It makes me cringe to see various businesses set up Christmas displays in October or sometimes even earlier than that.

Although I admit, I did leave my outside Christmas lights up all year once, many years ago. The only purpose was to save two bouts of labour, they would not be turned on until December.  That was the year I looked at the bulbs real close, discovering the paint was on the outside of the bulbs. By December of the following year I had all white bulbs.

The two bouts of labour took place all in one day – at below freezing temperatures, in high wind. Lesson learned.

I don’t suppose the new LED bulbs would be like that would they? ~
