What is it with computers? The faster they get the longer it takes them to start.

We went from 386s and 486s to multi.gig processors in just a couple years. Side bus speeds jumped from low double digits to high end triple digits. RAM went from a couple megs to hundres or even gigs. Hard drive speeds went wild with data flowing so fast it was amazing. CD and DVD burners went from no times to 52 times and beyond, now with double layer capability.

Yet when I turn on the cranky machine it takes ages for the thing to start up and shut down. Oh I am familiar with all the programs and such that can run in the background and am quite proficient in keeping them clean. But whether it is my home desktop, work desktop or either of several laptops I use, they all take ages to start. (Mind you ages these days is only about two or three minutes.)

Wonder if it has anything to do with 'Push Start to Stop'?
