Canada Doesn’t Exist on TV

It has often been said that many people living in the central to southern US are not aware of anything about Canada because geography and history are not presented the same way as here. Maybe that is not the only reason.

For example if you tune in to the weather channel or weather presentation on any channel in Canada, the United States is visible below Canada state by state in all its glory. Not so on the other side of the border. usmap

Canada was not visible on any weather presentation there. It was as if nothing existed beyond their northern border. It was always displayed black and dark looking with no identifiable marking of any kind.

In a like manner, newscasts that carried any items from near the Canadian border showed only a dark area beyond their border, whereas our newscasts always show their side for anything happening in a like manner. No big deal, but very noticeable in many ways.

We do exist though, as witnessed by the many Canadian flags on vehicles, and vehicles sporting licence plates from many of our provinces as we enjoyed the wonderful hospitality there.
