How’s Your Housework Doing? – “It’s Waffle Time”

wafflemaker I had been eating those frozen cardboard waffles for years and then a friend introduced me to the home made kind. Nice and thick, fluffy with lots of syrup, yummy yes it certainly was. So I said to myself: “Self you should get one of those little machines.” So I did.

I get a box of premix stuff that says ‘pancake and waffle mix.” (Here all those years I thought they were two different things.) I start out to follow the suggested procedure.

Spray some sticky non-stick stuff on the waffle surfaces. Kind of looks like nothing is going to stick to the counter either.

Plugger in and warmer up until the light goes out. Got it!

Mix the pre-mix in a bowl following the instructions exactly. Oh oh, problem. The suggestion is for 8 waffles. What the heck would I do with 8 waffles. They are square, so wouldn’t make good frisbees. Hmm, lets divide the quantities in half. Dividing two cups is easy, equals one cup. How do you divide one and a half cups of water? How much is that? The heck with it, just dump some in and stir out the lumps.

Time to pour the goop into, or is it on, the waffle making rig. Fill to two thirds full. What’s two thirds of a bunch of little bumps? In it goes, and it sits in the middle. Pour a little more, there it spreads out to the sides.

Close the lid and wait until the steam stops. Ahh geeze what’s all that white goop oozing out on the counter? Thankfully I sprayed the counter with that sticky non-stick stuff so it won’t stick to the counter.

Steam stopped, carefully open the waffle maker cover. Huh, where did my waffles go?  Oh they are stuck on the top part of the lid. Now that I think of it, what is that non-stick stuff supposed to do? You spray it on the top and the bottom part. Shouldn’t the waffles float in mid air?

Anyway the waffles turned out to be very tasty. Much better than the frozen box kind. And the mess wasn’t too bad, although I am at a loss to explain how the white goop got on my right elbow and left pant leg.

I’ve been told you can add strawberries, blue berries, almonds or chocolate chips to waffles to make them even more delicious. Can’t wait to try that – although I better get another can of non-stick. A lot more area to cover.
