Busy – But the Blog Is Back On Track
I can’t believe almost a month has passed since the last entry here. It is posted everywhere on the internet, “to have a successful blog you have to be regular and consistent”. Starting next week the blog will once again be in that category.
Snowbirding For The Winter
Going south for the winter for the first time changes your life in many ways. There are so many little things and sometimes big things to take care of when you return. And it it hard to get out of the relax mode and back into routine mode.
Things like income tax, furnace inspection, yard work, exchanging the blower for mower attachments, all compete for attention. These are things that should become part of the routine, and will once one gets the energy going in the right places.
However there are other things that change after a four month stint in Florida.
For example, the Panama City News Herald has been added to my list of daily things to read. Articles are read with much interest and at times concern, because you can relate to the area and know where things are. The recent Treasure Ship restaurant fire, and the concern over the oil spill possibly hitting the white sand beach of Panama City Beach get full attention. That is because you now feel you are part of that community, and likely will be because another visit or three is likely to happen.
Just like the newspaper, I check and compare the Panama City Beach weather, with the forecast for home. Sometimes you “wish you were there,” and other times “its not that much better there,” races through your mind. It makes it easy to compare, and easy also to drift into a mind of dreams.
Just because this was one of the highlights of our stay and we plan to do it again, only longer, Panhandle Helicopter comments and happenings are checked regularly via their Facebook page. It is also fun to follow the antics of Baxter. And if you don’t know who Baxter is, you will have to search their website or join their Facebook page.
I should mention here that Facebook has finally some value in my internet world since the journey south. It makes checking the above Panhandle Helicopter information easy. I got to see my first race at Daytona International Speedway this year, and adding their Facebook page gets me all the latest information as well as fans comments.
Perhaps one of the neatest happening is the generation of our own Snowbird Facebook page where our own unique little group can keep in touch daily, weekly or whenever we choose, with remarks, comments or pictures that only we can access and see somewhat privately.
Many Other Places
After traveling three different ways between Nova Scotia and Florida, I have been able to see or be near many places in the Eastern United States.
Picture it – first time I flew to Orlando, and drove back via I-95. Then decided to do a four month stay last winter, so drove to Panama City Beach primarily via I-81, followed by a return trip via I-85/I-81. That allowed me to see and be near a lot of places.
The result of all this is now when I see a news article or program on TV and it mentions one of the places we passed through or stopped at, I know exactly where it is, what’s around there and can directly relate to it. It’s a lot different than some imaginary place where you have never been.
One thing I haven’t figured yet, is sometimes when you look at the map or think of the journey by road it seems so far away. Yet in another way, all those places pass by quickly and it is a journey to look forward to again.
So you see days have gotten busy with a lot of new things as well as the old and sometimes a combination of both. I used to be able to do my morning internet reading in an hour and one cup of coffee. Now it takes two.
P.S.
Morning Coffee – one thing that makes my morning internet reading is an add on or extension for Firefox called Morning Coffee. Once you install this add on and program it for certain sites you read each day, you get to those sites with just one click. All your favourite sites open in tabs in a few seconds for instant reading. Check it out, it’s one handy extension.
