Invisible Pedestrians

Hearing about recent vehicle pedestrian collisions made me think of many of the pedestrians I've seen over the past while.

Although the media usually calls them accidents, they are not accidents, they are collisions that in most cases could have been prevented.

Its Dark Must Be The Night

I've seen numerous pedestrians lately all wearing dark clothing, from head to toe, sometimes even walking on the roadway when sidewalks are available. These pedestrians range in age from young to middle age.

Common sense would tell us to wear light coloured clothing, reflective even better. In this age, with the low cost of LED lights, carrying or wearing a light is pretty cheap.

Going To The Dogs

This is pretty bizarre. Twice in the not too distant past I've seen folks out with dogs and the dogs have the flashiest sequential dog collars I've ever seen. Multi-coloured bright LEDs that would attract attention a block away. The owners - dark clothing from head to toe.

In fact every pedestrian I've see lately wear dark boots, dark pants with often a hoodie type dark jacket. They remind me of the camera people you see at shows where they hide in the shadows and think you can't see them under the bright lights.

But there are no bright lights where pedestrians often trod on our streets and roadways.

Responsibility

There is a high responsibility on drivers to be aware of and watch for pedestrians at all times.

I think there is an even greater responsibility on the pedestrian, to make themselves highly visible - if they want to live.

Then again its pretty hard to treat stupid with common sense.
