Laughs

Some of the ways in out modern times tend to make me laugh. I have mentioned some of these before, but they all reappeared in order today as I went about my daily routine.

Car Alarm: There it was blasting and honking loudly for over 15 minutes in a department store parking lot. Headlights flashing, 4-ways going, blap blap blap, he honk he honk, blap, blap, blap...not one person of about twenty or so even so much as looked sideways at it. What the heck good is an alarm. No one is going to pay any attention anyway because you see them in parking lots like that day after day. Guess it gives the owner a good feeling as they leave their vehicle and hear that 'chirp chirp'.

Debit card machines at the cash registers: Most of you have used these at one time or another, and they have this stupid little shield sticking up about an inch high that is supposed to keep others from seeing you punch in your pin number. Well boy is that effective. I could stand back five people away and tell you what your number is. The buttons are laid out in the same sequence from 1 to 0 on every keypad. You don't need to see the numbers or the display to see what numbers you are punching in. How secure is that?

Department Store Walk Between Alarms: You know, at name brand department stores you walk between these two magical posts that scream blue thunder if the cashier hasn't deactivated the litte wire sensor from your purchase. No one pays any attention to these because they go off nearly every time someone passes through. Today I watched a person walk through that didn't even have a package or bag in their hand and it went off. "Guess it's not working" one of the staff said. Huh? Now that is security prevention from theft..

Security Guards posted by the cash registers near the exit: Well this has to be the most fun one of all. I am sure if somebody is going to take something and not pay for it they will do by the cash register so the security guard can see and stop them. "Hey cashier, this is the security gurard, that person didn't pay for that item." I am not sure how this process works. Anyway gurard the cash register area, don't worry about the rest of the store, security takes care of itself there..

That's all for today folks, to be continued....
