Light Bulbs & Desk Lamps

Most desk lamps come with halogen bulbs today, or some sort of minature glass enclosed filament. I have been trying different kinds of lamps in my computer room over the last couple of years, trying to find one that gives the proper subdued light I need and still have a reasonable bulb life.

What I am finding out is that those halogen and smaller bulbs do not last very long. Yes I am aware that when you change halogen bulbs you do not touch the glass surface with your fingers because the oil in you skin causes the bulb to burn out faster. Even so, these modern lighting devices don't last very long. Is it because these bulbs burn at such a high temperature? Whatever the reason I am forever changing these bulbs constantly, and they are not cheap.

The light may be whiter and perhaps they are low voltage, thus more efficient, but I am going back to a desk lamp with a normal size bulb in it. Thank goodness they are on sale this week for half price at one of the popular local retailers.
