AirShows
I love airshows being an ex-airforce type, but I didn't attend the one at Halifax International this year. Driving so far by car, then hanging around a parking lot waiting for a bus to take you the rest of the way is not my idea of a grand entry. And then to have to repeat the process at closing time is out of the question for my short fuse.
Then I read about residents that had to evacuate their homes for a period of time before the Blue Angels performance and are not allowed to return until afterwards. For safety reasons they say. Well they must have a lot of confidence in their flying. No, that is not like insurance, that is saying we may screw up, and take your house with us. Good thing I don't live on the flight line, cause I would probably be in jail by now.
50,000 people attended, when it used to be 80 to 90 thousand when it was at Shearwater, some years that many each day. Looks to me like that is the end of the line for a once famous yearly event. A sad thought for one that likes airplanes, especially those of military power. For despite any opposing opinions, we do need them...
