Answer To Crosswalk (Cloud Nine)

In this province pedestrians have priority in almost all circumstances, in crosswalks.

In crosswalks with the overhead pedestrian activated amber lights they have as much priority without the lights flashing as they do with them on. It is a courtesy for the pedestrian to press the button and activate the lights, and somewhat safer too.

At traffic light controlled intersections it is always better to have the walk light on if possible as an extra safety margin. Hoewever, providing the light is green in the direction the pedestrian is crossing they have priority.

Also in our motor vehicle act it clearly states that every intersecion has an unmarked crosswalk whether painted or not and pedestrians have the same priority there.

As in all rules of the road some choose to ignore what is right and what is legal. It is a joint effort on both parties to allow pedestrians to cross safely. As a pedestrian it is wise to err on the side of caution because no one wants to be dead right.
