Control
I remember a few years back standing in a line up awaiting a polaroid shot of my appearance to be placed on a plastic enclosed membership to the gun control club. After the picture and filling out an application that questions whether you should be allowed to have firearms in your possession or not, there was nothing to do but wait for the combo to arrive in the mail.
In a month or so it arrived. I am not sure whether I would trust the person in the picture with guns or not, but at least I was registered. I had mixed feelings then about whether this was a good or bad idea. The only guns I had in my possession where inherited and would never be fired again.
As the years went by the stories of its pros and cons were discussed many times, in the media, by co-workers, friends and it made political news every now an then. It came at a high price with tax payers footing the expenses whether they agreed or disagreed with the basic principles of gun control.
Having followed the news this summer about our twin cities activities I have come to a conclusion. From an amateur point of view, it seems many times a week someone is shot or shot at. No longer do we have to think this sort of thing happens during the wee hours. Afternoon shows are quite prominent these days.
We are right up there with the rest of the cities in our robberies and assaults as well. And even though the subject isn't always used or fired, its presence is often the persuader to make the event successfull for the wrong party.
After all this time I think I have an answer for myself as to whether gun control is working or not. I'll let you decide who is in control...
