Home Router Security

Wink: It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object to realize that you are in a hurry.

Here is some interesting reading about the security of home routers. Many of us have one these days and think they are pretty secure, having a hardware firewall and all.

But it seems they can be manipulated by outside sources to send your requests to sites other than what you desired. (Called Pharming.)

CBC
have a recent article about it, along with one about Firefox. The original Drive-by Pharming report came out in December, so I am not sure why they waited so long to publish their concerns.

Sounds scary, but it appears you are safe providing you set up your router properly by using your own User Name that you come up with plus a secure password determined by yourself.

Apparently a high percentage of router owners either use the default password which everyone knows, or leave the router wide open with nothing required to access it.

If you are one of those, read the articles, and get down to the business of doing it right, especially if you do online financial activities.
