Software That Is Soft

I got another email from the PR of the bread contest. They assured me that the contest is open to all ages, and that a problem was found with the over 65 age selection category. They apologized for any inconvenience and encouraged me to register now. What the heck for? I am already registered and I am a few years younger.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been trying out a number of new programs this week and one thing that really gets me is how poorly they write the uninstallers. Lets say you don't want to keep a program, so you do the normal uninstall.

Then up pops this message saying: "The following file doesn't appear to be needed by any program. However, if it is needed and you remove it the program may not function." If you leave it on your computer it will not do any harm.
Remove it?

My answer is this, for %$&*s sake, if you put it there, take it off. I have no idea whether it was there before in some form or not. So if it is yours, take it off. If not leave it alone. Don't be ticking me off with all these stupid questions. Programmers should be able to do better than that.

A program I tried today had about a dozen or so of these files. A couple years ago I had a program that had 72 of them.

Software is getting so bloated. I tried a program today that was 860 megs. It took one hour to install. A couple hours later I decided it was not for me. It took one and one half hours to uninstall. No kidding! In fact after the install started I decided too much was going on and I didn't want it, so I clicked cancel.

A message pops up and says, "If you cancel now, files have been changed and your computer may not work properly. It is probably better to finish the install and uninstall later". Then why in the heck is there an active cancel button there?

Some of the dumb things that are going on in the software world, not to mention that many of the uninstallers don't take everything off that they put on your machine. But that is what makes computing fun isn't it. Trying to stay ahead of them.
