Here We Go Again - and Again and Again!

Here we go again. The news is full of youth crime stories. This one beaten, that one beat up, those were stabbed, another one robbed - the list gets larger day after day.

Local politicians say that sort of crime is on the increase. The police department acknowledges an increase beyond comprension. Letters to the editors and comments on news articles suggest this is way out of hand.

Now there is one more factor prominent in most of these cases. The individuals that do get charged, if there are any charged, most often include violating an undertaking, or violating conditions, or whatever way they choose to report it.

Political groups are having meetings to correct the situation. Residents are saying something has to be done. This body is looking into the situation. That group is assessing the problem.

Now I ask you. How many times have you heard this before. It's the same thing over an over again. Somethng has to be done. Yeah right! We all know what the problem is. Just about every incident reported lists what the problem is near the end of the article.

It is said the laws need to be changed. It is agreed young offender laws need revision. So when is it going to happen? Never mind talking about it. That's been done already - at least a dozen times. Have those meetings and instead of discussing the problem, change the law, put some action into play.

But I suspect things will go on as they always have over the past few years. Nothing will change except more people will get beat up, robbed and even killed in some cases. And when the various elections from community level to higher up roll around, you go ahead and vote the same people back in.
