Firefox PicLens Addon
Most of us are familiar with Firefox and all the addons you can customize it with. Everyone has their favourite addons with the list of what is available almost endless.
I have been using an addon called CoolIris for quite some time. It allows you to preview web pages and pictures in a small pop up window when you mouseover a little symbol that appears. Then you can decide whether you want to look at the page with icons at the top of the little window that allow you to open the page in a new tab, email it to someone, or temporarly bookmark it off to the side. Move the mouse off the window and it disappears quickly. That addon alone is a good one that you may like.
The same company now has another new addon called PicLens and I think it is awesome. Using their web page as a sample, if you have a group of pictures on a page, when you move the mouse over them a translucent arrow appears as shown by the red arrow in the photo below.
Click that arrow and the second shot pops up with a full screen picture, with thumbnails across the bottom. You can change pictures by clicking on any of the thumbnails, or if you want to watch them all you can click on the big arrow on the left and all the pictures will be shown in slideshow fashion. It reminds me of Windows Multimedia slideshow.
If you go to Google images, Yahoo, Flickr or like sites you have an almost endless slideshow. You kinow how you like to check out the pictures of all your friends on Facebook, well it works there too, although it will only do one page at a time.
To exit the slideshow just click on the 'X' in the usual top right corner, or for us keyboard types, just hit Escape. (You can advance & backup slides with the arrow keys too. Or the mouse wheel will move them forward or back, but that is not a keyboard tip.) You are learning some of my fast scan techniques for the internet. I have only tried it in Firefox because that is the only browser I use.
