Online Purchasing Not So Hot

This is a follow up to my August 25th post. I mentioned after receiving a defective product and having it quickly exchanged the next day by one of the larger Canadian companies, it worked out that I was charged twice. It seems when some companies exchange items for online purchases they charge you for the second one, until they get the defective one back to their warehouse and verify everything is returned that was supposed to be in the package.

Even with their employee picking it up at the door, I can understand that. What I do not understand is why it would take four or five days to credit your account. I think two days should be sufficient if they are running an efficient operation.

Just so you know if you are into online ordering, you will be charged twice, and if your credit card bill happens to be due near the delivery date, you have no choice but to pay it.

You probably will receive a credit later in the four or five day time frame. However this can become an extreme hassle for you, requiring you to check and recheck that account multiple times to see if the credit did in fact arrive.

If you have a single account that you use only for online purchases just in case something goes wrong, and you don't intend to use it again in the near future, then the credit arrives after you paid your bill and your money is sitting there unusable until you decide to buy something again with that particular card.

I find this unacceptable in the online ordering world. I don't accept their excuse, "We are a large company and certain processes have to be followed. It can take as long as a week."

So be aware of yet another negative in the online ordering world. All companies may not be like this, but if you get a defective product and it has to be exchanged, you may be in store for a few surprises. This seems to fit in the realm 'the customer is always wrong.'

Had I bought the item I am talking about from one of their local stores, the whole scenario would have been settled in less than an hour.
