What You Put On Your Web Page or Blog Is There Forever
Do you have your own web page or blog? Many people think they can put something on their own web page or blog, (and a blog is a form of web page,) and if they don't like it just remove it and it is gone.
Think again. Chances are if you have posted something on a web page and you have a change of heart, or found it to be wrong and want to correct it, the original is likely still there, maybe forever.
WayBack Machine is only one example of a site that archives web sites, at least back to 1996. If they have scanned your site and archived it, and you change a page, your old one is still available through sites such as this. There are other sites that store previous web site pages in various ways.
If you've had your own web site, just type its url in the search bar on the WayBack page and click "Take Me Back." You might be surprised. I found it rather humorous doing that with my site and seeing what it looked like years ago when it was first starting, compared to today.
The point being, be careful what you put on your site if it is controversial, criticizing something or someone, or any number of things that could come back to haunt you. Just because you delete a page, overwrite it, or change it, does not mean the old one is gone. Chances are it still exists somewhere on some server just waiting to be looked at.
