Only The Bad Write In The Good Stay Silent
One thing that is handy in these modern times is that no matter what you intend to buy, you can research it on the internet and find out lots about it. The various reviews are great, often written by actual users instead of paid kickback versions, although those are there too.
Then there are the user reviews, or comments as they are often called. Lots of real information from people like you and I that have actually purchased the product and used it in circumstances similar to what you will.
One thing that we have to remember in this area though, is often only the bad write in. Anyone who has a problem with a product is often quick to write in and say how bad it is. A good percentage of responses would be from those unfortunate enough to have a less than ideal experience with something they bought new.
Users that have a good experience with a new item may not respond at all. If all is good, they likely have no reason to go back to a site that has comments and say how good an experience they have had. If the product is good they will move on and be happy.
Sometimes you have to read between the lines to get the full meaning and value of comments.
The other thing to watch for is the date of the review or comment. I have been caught several times reading about a product and thinking it is not the best, then finding out the comment was written three years ago. That would likely mean if a piece of equipment was defective or had problems, there would be a new and improved model out by this time.
So research material is good, and there is a lot of value in it when you are going after something new. Just sometimes you have to 'research the research material.'
