Glasses, Let Me See

eyeglasses Everyone needs to have their eyes checked now and then, more so when your years add up to be more than half. I am in that last half and although it is recommended to have eye checks at least every two years, it was four years since I last looked through the fuzzy numbers machine.

Things turned out reasonably well for me. I say reasonably, because yes I did need new glasses, but the price since the last time more than doubled. Everything else was fine more or less.

Every time I go for glasses I get told the trend is towards smaller. So my last frames were smaller than the ones I had before, and the frames I have now are smaller than the ones I had a week ago.

Glasses are like buying a bikini. The smaller they get, the more they cost. Forget the smart remarks I am not into buying bikinis – just a reference.

So new fancy frames, that are lighter than dust. Pretty fragile looking, but I am told they are stronger than a cobweb. Add a couple hundred bucks. I had progressive lens with a coating that you could never keep clean. I want progressive again. I want to be able to drive and to use this computer, but not at the same time, so progressive is good. New ice coating that is much better now, and the cleaning problems are gone. Ice coating! Sounds cool. Add another couple hundred bucks.

Now these old eyes require stronger lens and they are about to get thick and heavy. Thick and heavy might not be the best for the new light frames, not to mention the nose. So there is a new process where they can be ‘shaved,’ reducing the weight and thickness to almost ordinary. Add another couple hundred bucks.

So I have my new glasses. Can’t believe I have $657. on my nose. Most people wear their jewellery on their fingers or some other body part. Now its user friendly time again, learning to step off curbs after you get to them instead of before.

I guess it is worth it. You need your eyes no matter what, so it is probably worth taking care of them with the best. I can read the fine print again, “made in India,” “manufactured in China” and no trans fat except for the fries and oil.

I can even see the tiny little words on my remote. Skip more back. Live exit menu, stuff like that.

I even discovered my remote has a TUV – TUV? – oh sorry, that’s the letters under the number 8.
