Warranty vs Extended Warranty or Maintenance Agreement
When we purchase an item these days we often spend a bit of time researching which brand is best for our purposes. Then we make the selection based on our research and personal choices.
Now days just about everything comes with a warranty. But - read the fine print. You have to take it to the retailer. This is great if it weighs 2000lbs. They fix it with rebuilt parts. (You bought it new, it failed, and now you want used parts?) Replacement or repair is at their discretion. (The %$#^ thing doesn't work, it is their decision?) You get the picture.
Now comes the offer of an extended warranty or a maintenance agreement. Think about it! They are betting you that you made a wrong decision and that your choice of product is going to fail. So for almost as much as you paid for it they offer this agreement to repair the item. Now they don't do regular checks anymore, but you just give them a call.
Where are we going with this? And you thought the Casino was the only gambling you had to avoid becoming addicted to.
