Local Radio Stations Yech!
I have mentioned this before, but it is getting worse. Radio stations in this area, and probably yours too are becoming nothing more than auto-juke boxes.
There was a time when you could depend on radio for news and other information, especially when it came to local interest items. Not anymore!
On several occasions over the past couple of weeks I have tuned in to various stations while driving, mainly in hopes of catching the news on the hour or on the half hour.
For hour after hour, no news. But they play the same music and the same advertisements at exactly the same time every day - for weeks on end. This applies to most commercial stations; sometimes they play the news on the hour, but not always; sometimes it is on the half hour, but not always.
To make matters worse, they advertise uninterupted music for the next twenty minutes, or whatever time frame they choose. Yep, in between every song, they tell you are listening to uninterrupted music. (sic?)
Radio has become so dependent on the computer that they can no longer provide a useful service. Yet they complain advertising is down and they have a tough go of it. Fears are that satellite radio will soon take over local markets, causing more losses.
I hope so. At least that way I can choose whose garbage to listen to from hundreds of selections. And I might even find one whose music rotation is once a month, instead of every day..
