More On Warranty

When is a warranty not really a warranty. Well when it is not ever going to be useful.

For example; I buy the expensive brake rotors because I am told they will last a lot longer. They are about double the price. There is a choice of brake pads also. The most expensive ones have a lifetime warranty.

Well the brake rotors fail and begin to vibrate after three years of use. I think cheap rotors would last almost as long. At any rate you could have two sets of the cheap ones for the price of the top rated ones. Now the brake pads are only 50% worn.

The expensive rotors are only guaranteed for one year or so many thousand kilometres. (I can see why.) So I have to pay for the rotors if I replace them. Now the lifetime pads are only 50% worn, so they won't replace them cause they didn't wear out. Any garage will tell you it is not very practical to put worn pads on new rotors or they will wear to the old pattern.

So the lifetime guarantee is only good if you only live a year. Otherwise there are so many variables you will end up paying anyway. Buy the cheap ones!
