One Remote

Wink: Actual headline - "Something Went Wrong in Jet Crash"

Why can't manufacturers get together and make a remote control that works for everything?

Every time you purchase a piece of electronic equipment you get another remote control. Sure you can purchase programmable remotes that supposedly can be programmed to do whatever the originals do and more. I have two of them along with the other 12 remotes that came with the equipment.

Six of the remotes that came with the equipment say they can be programmed to operate other system components. Talk about false advertising, even the programmable remotes cannot be programmed to do everything. So you need to keep the originals around.

Some of the remotes even lose their programming if you change the batteries. Then find the codes and remember how to get it to do what it used to do.

My favourite is the Logitech 520, you program that one on the internet and download the information. It is pretty good, but still doesn't do everything for everything.

Talk about environmental concerns, there must be a pile of remotes in the landfills, or will be once I clean the closet out.

So all I ask is for all the manufacturers to get together and come up with one remote with common codes that can work anything you may buy. I'll buy the remote separate, leave it out of the box with the DVD player or TV.

Before the emails start, I am fully aware that there are remotes by certain high end manufacturers that say they will do all. They won't, they come very close. but they won't. And I won't pay from $2000. to $5000. for a remote, I want it for about fifty bucks.
