Go Green
So far 2007 has brought a major change to my life. A change that means nothing can be the same anymore. I was just thinking about other changes around us that are taking place and affects everyone, so that things are not the same anymore.
For example every night this week near my location there has been fireworks. Every night! Fireworks are sold in several local stores openly. So they are in a glass case. Just about anyone can buy them. If they don't ask for ID for cigarettes and booze I am sure they won't for fireworks. Whatever happened to the law that said it was illegal to sell them as well as use them?
Street racing has become main stream. This week taking the life of an innocent driver on the other side of the street. Is anything being done? Not that I can see. "The person was in the wrong place at the wrong time" one official remarked. Where is the right place? That driver was on her own side of the road, driving normally as far as I understand. Would the right place be to drive on the wrong side of the road?
Then there is the bridge that collapsed in the US. Prior to the event it was said it was structurally sound but in need of repair. Doh! Say that again. And they are saying highway bridges in this part of the world are in about the same condition. How long do you let them go until something is done about it?
Animals are being tortured and left abandoned. Often it is groups of new puppies or cats. In the news today there is a story of a cat being clubbed with plenty of witnesses observing. What is happening to our world that such things become common place and are accepted by almost everyone?
Maybe going 'green' involves a lot more than just recycling and improving the atmosphere. Perhaps we need to go out in the garden and get rid of a few weeds.
