Mrs & Mrs

I have been told and keep getting reminded times have changed and I need to adjust my ways. That's okay, I am working on that part.

But some of the news item have me wondering just a little. Wondering what the next generation of 'Little Johnnies' will be thinking - and saying. You are not supposed to think about things like this, you are supposed to go along with the flow and accept what is 'right' according to someone else.

A generation or two from now I am wondering how little Johnny (I hope this will be accepted as a generic name), will answer certain questions. What is your father's name? "Mary Ann" he will say. (Another generic name, honest.) Do you see where I am going with this? Filling out a form with Mother's name, Father's name, could make for interesting reading. I wonder if they will still be asked what is your mother's maiden name?

How should mail be addressed? Mrs. & Mrs. Smith? What if asked, "Where does your father work?" "Oh she works at the office downtown" he could say. I am using two of the same gender here as an example, it could just as easily be Mr. & Mr Smith, the questions work out the same.

The list goes on when you think about it. Here we are accepting new things, new ways of being equal and showing each other respect, but could it be adding to the burden of the next generations.

Maybe I am out to lunch, or should be . . .
