Firefox 3 Download Disappoints A Lot Of People
As per my last post, a lot of people booted their computers today expecting to immediately participate in a record breaking attempt for the most downloads of a single program in a 24 hr period. But most all the download links were not working.
It seems there was a major oversight. Time! In the excitement and swirl of introducing a new updated browser, the team must have forgot that the internet is a world wide system. They are based in California and plan to use Pacific time as the introductory time.
That doesn't do much for our world wide friends on the other side of the planet who see the dawn of a new day well before we do.
GMT time is available for a reason. That is why aircraft and the military use it, so that no matter where you are, the time is the same. There were two things that went wrong here. First, time was not mentioned at all. Second GMT time should have been used so that the 24 hr time period would have been easy for everyone to figure.
You can find out when Firefox3 will be available in your area by clicking here. Each area will still have 24 hours to download Firefox3, but it couldn't have been made any more confusing.
Being on the east coast of Canada I won't get it until 2 p.m. my time, and I will wait until then. I do think this time error will lose a lot of 'downloaders' that might have made the world record attempt much greater, if indeed one is set now.
