Too much Blue Light–Lack of Restful Sleep–f.lux
Things change, months ago I tried a program called f.lux and I didn’t really care for it. I spend a lot of time in front of the computer screen, quite often during the evening hours. I kept reading about this free program called f.lux. Recommendations for it would pop up at various sources.
So I decided to try it once again, only this time leave it on for a few weeks and really give it a chance. Now I think f.lux is a keeper.
Why because it lets me sleep – better.
f.lux reduces or eliminates computer screen blue light. As I understand it, this blue light messes up your sleep pattern. Circadian rhythm, melatonin and blue light are just a few of the terms affecting our sleep patterns. I’m not going to repeat what others have spent time researching. You can get as little or as much detail as you need on these sites as well as others:
Mark’s Daily Apple How Light Affects Our Sleep
Or pick your own information sources from Google.
And of course there is plenty of information on their own site, f.lux, where you can download the free program to try.
Once you have f.lux set up and adjusted properly, it adjusts the blue light from your screen to follow the sun in whatever time zone you are in. Plenty of blue during daylight hours, warmer during the evening hours.
I found I was waking frequently during the night, and not sleeping a restful sleep in a lot of cases. Since using f.lux for an extended period of time, it makes you want to go to bed by 10 or 11 pm, sleep right through, get up early feeling totally rested, ready for a new day.
I will say it takes at least a week to get used to the changes.
From the various resources there are a lot of things you can do to induce and improve normal sleep patterns. Using f.lux was a good start for me.
