Some Assembly Required

Some Assembly Required – don’t you like those words when you see them on the carton? What do they mean. Let me tell you! The @#^% thing is in pieces, every last little component that is part of the whole is in little tiny pieces.

Know what else? The instructions probably say: “Pick up screw driver, place nut on shaft and turn to the left”. (When I turn to the left I can’t see the project.)

Some products even include tools. A two inch screwdriver with a big fat end (not the handle end), and a stamped tin open end wrench that is stretched more than my imagination.

Wait! First you have to get all those small pieces out of the blister pack packaging. Hope you have a case-cutter, watch your fingers, watch your fingers bleed, the cutter doesn’t get them, sharp edges of the plastic will.

Follow the instructions. Here is a quote from one of my latest purchases: “Hold the diagram upside down over your head for correct orientation.” (When I do that I am looking at the French side and it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.)

Oh well, at least when they say ‘batteries not included’ I don’t have to install them.
