Anytime Is Train Time
Today I attended a Model Train show. In the 70s I had an HO gauge model train layout set up in the basement where we were then, complete with scenery and so on.
How times have changed. The HO type are still the same as far as looks are concerned, but there are a lot more behind the scenes. And if you go to the N class things get really modern. Everything is real-like, controlled by electronic chips and hand held controller(s) that look like a TV type remote control.
Several peoples trains can operate on the same tracks as it is the electronics that keeps everything separated. This really adds true to life experiences including head on collisions if you are not paying attention.
The hobby can be as expensive or as economical as you want to make it.
As I walked around carefully, I noticed some people were getting educated:
They are not train sets – they are layouts.
They are not playing with them – they are operating.
The only thing that was really the same was the old chuggers chugging along (
