Put Some Wind In Your Sails
We Remember Then and Now!

I don't get it. I just don't get it. I sit here watching the suppertime news and there are a string of news events describing rescues involving sail boats. This involved both the Canadian and US Search and Rescue teams.
A couple sail boats left this province only a week or so ago. The announcer said they left with weather charts indicating good weather. They were all experienced sailors with boats in very good condition.
Now it seems to me at any time of year a weather chart in Nova Scotia is only good for about an hour, summer or winter. But this time of year. Why would anyone think they could sail from here to the southern islands in a small boat and not have some kind of weather activity. Even the hurricane season is barely over.
A boat in good condition. Does it really matter if it is only a small sail boat. Did anyone ever look at some of the large container ships that come into our port with damaged containers from rough seas, and there wasn't even a storm.
Experience sailors are they? That doesn't do a lot of good if you are in a small craft and have 15 to 30 foot swells. New technology has done a lot for small craft in navigation and other things. I guess they forgot to check that computer that resides just above adams apple.
And our taxes pay for all those fantastic unplanned but inevitable rescues.
