You Think Computer Help Lines Are Bad

I had a problem with the good 'ole government mis-assessing(is that a word?) my entitlement to old age benefits. Amount was cut back because my 2005 tax figures were used when I was working. Income is much less now that I am retired.

So I called the 1-800 to point out their little mistake. That resulted in me talking to a lady in Ontario, a few thousand kilometers away.

But . . . I was advised, I have to send notice in writing to the Halifax office to have my claim reassessed, about eleven kilometers away. No email allowed, it is not considered secure. If you call the Halifax number, you still get the up country edition of press one, or the other.

Today I get a letter in the mail - from Newfoundland - thanking me for the additional information, a few hundred kilometers from here across an ocean. I will be advised if this results in any changes.

So far this has only take a couple of months. Is there an old old age pension? I have a feeling this is going to take awhile.

So the next time you call the hardware/software help line and the person is in India or 'thereabouts', be thankful you got to talk to somebody.

How was your week, mine needs to be recycled.
