I Heard It Again

Here in Nova Scotia winter started early and after a few minor storms the same old stories get worse. The storm of a couple days ago brought the usual rash of motor vehicle collisions. (I refuse to call them accidents.)

What gets me is the way the media handles this 'bull-oney'. The supposedly sad story of a motorist and his family whose sports sedan ended up many metres off the road.Thankfully no one was hurt. But they interview this character and he is all shook up. Duh!

The slush was a foot deep on the on ramp so he said. Once you get into that it pulls you right off the road. What's wrong with that Department of Transportation anyway? All I could think of is the video showed the car - way over there, almost on it's side by a clump of small trees. In my humble opinion it would be impossible to get from the roadway where they were standing to where the car was, at a speed of 50 km per hr.

And the TV media plays up to this. I guess it is always good to see a reminder of what one looks like in case we have a tendency to forget.

One RCMP officer said it very plainly, "Slow down and drive according to conditions." But hardly anyone does.

Too bad they couldn't invent a GPS with an automatic transmission with infrared braking for that thing on top.
