One Car One Person

drive3  Because of the high cost of fuel, certain comments prevail from the public in the media. I have mentioned before that SUVs are always referred to as gas guzzlers, even though there are many other type of vehicles on the road that use more fuel.

The other statement that gets to me is, "look at all the cars out there with only one person in them."

So? When an individual goes out an buys a vehicle, they are not buying a bus. Who says there has to be more than one person in it. Because there is only one person in it driving to work doesn't mean there isn't other family members on board at other times.

In fact, most times other than family members, I don't want other people in my vehicle. If I were driving to work these days, I wouldn't want to wait for others when they are late, I don't want their food particles and coffee stains in my car, I don't need their cat hairs, and I don't like their smell on the way home after they have been eating pizza and drinking beer at lunch time.

However if I want a big car with comfort and gadgets, that's my decision. If I pay for it and its operation, it is up to me how many people are in it.

This 'get a small fuel efficient car' thing is getting out of hand. Have you seen the small under powered car with four to six people in them out on the highway? There can be occasions when you need to have that many on board, although not all the time.

In fact if you pay attention you can see the small cars out on the highway with only one or two people in them. They go by you at five km or more over the limit on the straight stretches, then the first hill you come to who is struggling along at 85 or 90 km?

If you want a small car, that's your choice, no problem with that. If others want a large vehicle that is their choice too. It is a choice. If the owners choose to pay the higher price for the fuel and can, fine. No need to throw the barbs "get a smaller car".

As for environmental concerns, maybe, but there are lots more contributors to that, with decisions made by other people as well. In Canada, look at all the trucks on the road today since we done away with most of the trains. Which pollutes more moving cargo across the land?
