Write Like You Mean It
I have been reading both online and in the local print media againof how people's writing is changing, from the young in schools to the adults of the upper world. Lately I have also been reading and participating in many internet forums and news site comments.
I can understand in the world of text messaging where for speed and typing ease words are shortened to a certain extent and can still carry meaning. BTW and LOL would be examples. No big deal there, where the goal is to make use of a very small screen.
but when i see people send email and post answers in the forums like this it drives me nuts paragraph after paragraph with no capitols and no periods to end sentences.
(I had difficulty writing that paragraph like that, my program and the computer wanted to correct everything.) It is not only young people that are writing like that. Higher up management types are responding to forums with correspondence like that.
I haven't mentioned spelling mistakes and there are plenty. We all make spelling and grammar mistakes, but not word after word, paragraph after paragraph. If you take a look around, you will find spelling mistakes on advertising signs in stores, and even oh huge billboards as you drive down the road.
I was studying up on how to improve web sites and generate more interest. One topic covered the differences in the English language, for example between Canada, the United States, and the UK. Not only are some words spelled differently and mean the same, such as labor and labour, but some are spelled the same and have different meaning in each country.
