Forward Filter for Email
I mentioned back on Nov. 14th that I had activated a forward filter to get rid of all the joke email, powerpoint presentations, and other such nonsense that people like to send on and on, so much so that you often receive multiple copies of the same thing. Many of these things keep going round and round and become a huge time waster.
Several inquiries asked, "how do you do that?"
I use Thunderbird email program which I think is better than any other, but that is personal opinion. Setting up an email filter in Thunderbird is easy and the procedure would be similar for any standard email program.
In Thunderbird, click on Tools>Message Filters>New. You will get this box.
Give the filter a name, such as FW in this case.
In the next box, where it says Subject, contains, put in FW:
(you may want one with Fw: too.)
In the bottom box where the arrow is pointing, select from the drop down list where you want the message to go.
The drop down list will show all of your email folders, and you can send the forward stuff direct to trash, or the junk folder. In my case I made an FW folder and all the forwarded stuff goes there. Then I highlight everything in the FW folder and send it to Trash. That way I can quickly scan the titles and senders just in case I have a forwarded email of importance that I wish to keep.
Filters are a handy tool in email, often unused by the majority. They can be used to filter out spam, junk mail and just about anything you don't want to receive. You can use filters in other ways too, for example all the mail from Mom can be sent to the "Mom" folder, newsletters to "Newsletter" folder and so on. Very handy, but often unused. Try it, you may be surprised how efficient it can make your email browsing.
