Spring Ahead Fall Back

bwclockIn this region we are supposed to set our clocks back an hour to standard time this evening.  Because of shift workers and so on, it officially takes place at 2 a.m. And this is the time of year everyone says "we gain an hour of sleep." Funny, but when I set my clock back I lose an hour. Can't figure that one out.

So the ritual begins. At my place it takes almost a day to change all the clocks back. Even so you are bound to miss one or two. Dozens of things have clocks built in to them, not to mention the devices such as DVD recorders that are time operated if you choose to record something while you are not there.

'Spring ahead, fall back' is the phrase often used to keep our minds straight as to which directions the big hand and little hand should go at that particular time of year. Hands? That's right too, most clocks are digital these days and don't have hands, but Mickey Mouse loves it.

Each year I always miss at least one clock after thoroughly checking and rechecking the following day. The year before it was the one on the truck. Last year I discovered a new one. If you run a web page or a blog such as this and it has a clock displaying local time such as the one in the upper right, you have to go into the code and change the time manually. That is because it is set to get the time from the GMT/UTC signal by hours of difference.

When you are retired, time doesn't mean as much anymore. I think I should just let them blink 00:00. (Some users won't see the time blink because their browsers follow a different standard.) Then just have one central clock to let me know what time it is, which would be my cell phone, because I can handle setting that, it does it by itself.
