You Are Entitled To A Tax Refund - Scam
A little deviation from our usual blog entry today. If you are Canadian and receive an email as above or similar, ignore it. I had heard about this endeavour some time ago and since it is tax time it is circulating.
First of all I received two of the same at 5:05 am local time. That would be 4:05 am where the agency is actually located. Do you believe our government workers are working on a Saturday at that hour of the morning?
Second, the entire email is a picture. Anywhere you hold your mouse you could click it and it would go to the listed url. Don’t try it.
If you use an email website tracking identification program as I did, it does not lead to any Revenue Canada website, but to a private computer located in the province of Quebec.
It should be obvious that this is not the way refunds are issued. However since a lot of people seem to get caught this way, this is a heads-up to hit Delete.
