Dollar Extension Cords
We have all heard the saying: “You get what you pay for.” Sometimes you don’t!
We have also heard of electrical fires caused by malfunctioning electrical equipment.
This is a photo of a dollar 3ft. extension cord. As you can see, it got very hot.
The blue tag, which is supposedly a CSA approval tag, indicates the cord is rated at 1625 watts.
This cord overheated with an intermittent appliance using 1500 watts, which is well below the rating.
The red arrow is pointing to what appears to be a moulded in CSA approval logo.
Fortunately this 1625 watt rated cord, with its 1500 watt load was not left unattended and the electrical odour was quickly detected. It could have been a lot worse.
It has not been determined yet how this cord got is approval or rating, and whether or not it is authentic. However they are readily available at various cheap outlets.
This cord was made in China!
