When The Arrows Are Coming At You…

When the arrows are coming at you… you are not necessarily in an old time western movie.

Part of the adventure in traveling in our neighbouring country with all its states is trying to observe and understand various driving rules. Even though most things are the same, there are differences.

For example, it is common in the US to exit interstates to the left as well as the right. In Canada we are accustomed to exiting only right. I also find that straight through lanes don’t always go straight, you have to zig or zag a little to stay in the lane to go straight. That little can be as much as a full lane width sometimes.

Or you can have a sign that says “Slow traffic keep right,” and in less than a few hundred feet it will be written on the pavement only ‘Merge Left’ as the lane suddenly ends.

But when you turn into a street marked like this:

LaneArrows

The meaning is exactly the same! All the traffic is coming towards you! Make a U-turn as soon as possible! Turn around! You are going the wrong way. Go the other way – fast!

Did I do this. Don’t be silly. While having a temporarily lost but I know where I want to go moment, I turned right on to a street that didn’t have any marking saying one way, or no right turn. But I knew something was wrong the minute I detected all the arrows coming at me.

Big Blue did the fastest U-turn known to mankind. Not another vehicle in sight until I sat at the light – with the biggest triumph smile you ever seen – pointed in the right direction, which was not the case moments ago.
