Christmas Is Different
A busy weekend of changing temperatures makes for interesting times. Shirtsleeve weather in Panama City Beach for a Santa Claus parade on Saturday, followed by heavy overcoat weather on Sunday, is only part of the story of getting ready for Christmas here.
Sales, Yard Sales, Christmas Fairs
High end yard sales here bring about ‘stuff’ that is brand new or used, depending on the vendors purposes.
Here we got a turkey platter which must be unique. It is large, very large, with the raised imprint making it very heavy and sturdy.
It cost the huge amount of $3.00.
At other locations, cookie racks were ten cents. Dolls and cabbage patch type babies, fifty cents.
Christmas Fair
In Lynn Haven there was a huge Christmas Fair outside, much like a flea market, with live entertainment and lots of Christmas goods and goodies for sale.
Christmas shopping has a different air about it when you are going around with a light jacket on.
One thing for certain, the mood is the same, perhaps even better here, for everyone seemed happy and interested in each other’s well being.
Decorated Palms
A couple people last year after I got home asked me if they really decorate palm trees here, or if they have normal trees like us. First of all palm trees here are normal as far as the landscape goes, but you will find Christmas versions of both.
Throughout Pier Park, and other places, the palm tree trunks are decorated from top to bottom. And there are a lot of them.
Again it was neat to watch a Christmas Parade featuring a variety of entries for young and old. Nice and warm, with the Christmas spirit on everyone’s mind.
(I have some pictures of the parade I hope to edit and post when I get a break from the fast paced life here )
All that took place Saturday. Sunday we attended a concert where entertainment consisted of mainly two people. A guitar player/singer, and a guy playing steel drums. He made the steel drums sound like an orchestra. I am not much for shows, but this was my second time for this one and it was fantastic.
Then again, some just don’t care about Christmas and stand around watching the people go by…
