Finally It’s 29 deg.

Rio09-12-2010 07-25-39

In Rio De Janerio

In Nova Scotia its –4 deg. Panama City Beach, it’s a balmy –3 deg. Much warmer. Okay no more complaining about frosty palm trees – until tomorrow.

The Internet Is Different

We should be happy with the internet we have at home. Differences abound here. For example, no matter what you choose to surf to on the internet, you will find a pop-under page underneath when you finish or close your browser. You can filter out the contents, but the blank page will still be there.

No MS Updates

Probably due to some unique setup I haven’t figured out yet, we can’t get any updates the normal way from Microsoft, including security essentials, both of which are important. All other downloads work normal, and no, there are no malware or such items on all the computers we tried.

This didn’t happen last year on a different provider, everything worked pretty much normal.

My work around is to start the computers ‘back home’, download the updates, then transfer the downloaded files from the computer at home to the computers here. Thank goodness I figured out how to do that before departure.

But Life Is Good

Despite some bantering about the weather and computing, it is nice to be here in Panama City Beach. There is not much danger of seeing any snow, driving and walking will always be pleasant.

We have our community of “snow birds” and it is so reassuring to meet up with them again on a regular basis. Added to that, the fact that the local population welcomes us in every way.

The ocean is emerald green, the air fresh, and we are in relaxed mode.
