You Qualify
If you are like me, whenever you buy a product of any value, whether a vehicle, appliance or electronic equipment you select carefully.
Research includes internet reviews, friends experiences, and all the information gathering you can possibly accumulate. Then you make the move, and if its not out of stock by now, you purchase your new product.
Want the extended warranty with that?
Before you get to the cashier, you are probably asked, "Do you want the extended warranty with that?"
What? I just bought it. Is it going to break down. I bought a lemon?
That makes me feel real proud of the purchase I just made. After all that research, they want me to bet it is going to break down.
"Doesn't it have a manufacturer's warranty?" I ask.
"Yes, but that’s only for a year. This will extend your warranty and give you free replacement up to two years," I'm told.
Isn't that like throwing the year of free manufacturer's warranty away?
Now I am feeling real good about my purchase. Not only are they telling me it is going to break down, they are telling me it is going to break down just after the warranty expires.
"No no no!" they say, "It's like insurance. Just in case something happens you're protected."
Would I be more protected if I hadn't chosen that brand, my thought bubble reads?
I do not take the extended warranty.
Employee Pricing
As the weeks go by I get an email a week saying:
"Thank you for purchasing from XYZ.
As a valued member of the XYZ family you qualify to purchase select service plans at XYZ employee pricing.
This entitles you to receive 20% off an extended service plan to protect your investment."
So from what I understand, they are pretty sure it is going to break down. Probably after the warranty. It has to be pretty common too. After all why would there be employee pricing?
And my next question, is why would employees buy this model if its going to break down?
Warranty for the warranty
Now I'm off to do more research. Anyone know where I can get an extended warranty for the extended warranty. My old one lasted 7 years, I may need it.
Remember that country song, “Cowboy Logic?” I’m the one in the middle.
