Reboot The Driver
When I first bought my van they told me there were several computers that were the brains of it. That's fine because I like the gadgets.
While vacationing south during the past winter months my van was recalled for a software upgrade to the transmission to improve the shifting pattern.
This was a dealer installed upgrade.
The upgrade worked. After a few minutes of upgrading it does shift better than previously, especially on cruise.
A few days ago I got a CD in the mail advising me of an upgrade for the radio and on board navigation system.
You get to do this upgrade yourself.
This wasn't an upgrade for the maps, you have to pay for that. This was to upgrade the graphics and features.
Just pop in the CD and carefully follow the instructions.
With warnings to turn on the ignition, don't start the engine, don't turn it off until its finished, don't be alarmed if it doesn't do anything for awhile, I had visions of a blank radio/navigation screen forever before I was done.
My navigation screen donned a computer look as progress bars began sliding slowly across the screen.
Minutes go slowly by.
Then it happens. The screen goes dark and blank.
What seems like forever, but is probably only 30 seconds or so a message appears:
"Rebooting system."
And there it is, new software, newer looking graphics and I don't know what else until I use some of the features later on.
But in both cases, just like a desktop or notebook computer, new upgrades easily handled via software.
Now I am checking the mail faithfully every day for the next upgrade.
I am looking for the upgrade that will reboot the old boot that uses all this stuff.
