Copy To – Delete
After all this preaching about backups and creating safe guards, I learned a lesson yesterday.
It was 31 deg. C. (88 deg.F.) here yesterday, so a drive to the seashore was in order in search of cooler temperatures.
During the to and from trip, I captured quite a few good videos with the dash mounted cam with the intention of editing them into something pleasing later on.
In the evening I proceeded to move them from the SD card to the computer for that purpose.
Many times when doing that I have always had the thought I should copy them from the card to the computer, then delete them from the card after to be safe.
I thought that, but didn’t do it. I will from now on.
I don’t know for sure if something went wrong or human error caused each videos to disappear. I suspect the latter.
I used a recovery program, but most of them recovered corrupt. Fortunately these videos are easy to replace, it could have been worse.
So my simple advice when moving files, photos or videos:
Copy to – then Delete!
