Gas Prices
Always a topic of interest these days. What gets me, and I witnessed this today as we were driving around on the job, is the difference in prices at the same name outlets. For example at one Petro Canada station the price was 129.9 per litre. A few blocks away another PC outlet was selling gas for 114.9 per litre. Still another, not far away was at 111.9. Other outlets were much the same, Esso with a similar range, but including 116.9. Only Ultramar seemed to be holding steady at the original 111.9, and the line ups proved that.
If that wasn’t enough, my job took me outside the city twenty miles or so, where the price was 111.9 per litre. That fuel comes from the same place, there is only one refinery in the Halifax/Dartmouth area.
No one will ever convince me that the price is tied directly to the world market price per barrel. They are playing games with us, trying to find out what we are willing to put up with, or playing with each other to see who else will go higher.
Not only should we conserve, but lets find an alternate fuel source. There has to be one.
