High Rise Heritage
The debate goes on in this city of ours. Keep the old buildings in their original shape, or change the skyline with new modern weird designed high rise emblems.
I like things from the past, but change does happen, like it or not. Most of he old buildings that we keep around seem to be in need of major repair. Paint falling off, shingles that look like twisted leaves in the breeze. Stories of money needed to bring them back to their long lost stature.
Thing is, the new buildings will come. Like the oil filter advertisement, get you now or get you later, the fancy new structures will dot the sky line along our famous harbour. Like the Sunday shopping debate, a certain segment of the population will keep at it until the answer is yes.
And know what? I think I am on the side of the new higher fancier buildings this time. Get them constructed, the sooner the better. Get this place modern, change the skyline, make us famous. The drab look has been around long enough.
Know what else? Some generations away, these new structures of today could be the heritage arguments in the future.
