More Power
We are bombarded with suggestions on how to reduce electrical power consumption these days. Things like turning off the lights, or using new energy efficient bulbs. Those are minor compared to the number of things that use power in your home that you don't think about.
Most tv's draw power when they are turned off. When you hit the off button you are only putting them on standby. That is why they come back on almost instantly. Same with most audio systems, they are on standby when they are off. Your microwave draws power when it is off, and not just for the little clock.
All those devices around your home that have power bricks that are plugged in add up to lots of energy waste. (Power bricks are those little square blocks in the middle on on the end of the cord that you plug in, to charge your phone, run your monitor, your phone, and so on.) I have dozens of those things around the house that are plugged in most of the time.
Do a check of what you have plugged in. Research the net to see other things that waste electrical power. You may be surprised. Check your power meter when you think you have everything turned off. Watch how fast that wheel in the middle is spinning. The faster it spins, the more power being used.
I am willing to bet that it never comes close to a complete stop.
