White Poppy
White Poppy
I wanted to give my thoughts on those who think it is better to wear a white poppy rather than red. The idea from what I gather is those who choose to wear white oppose war, but support the troops. What kind of oxymoron is that?
My comments on this; ridiculous, ignorant and thoughtless.
I wear a poppy to honour and remember those who gave us what we have now, but lost their life and never got to enjoy the pleasurable experiences we did. I wear a poppy to honour and remember those who have lost their lives more recently in a current ongoing conflict.
I also remember those that are involved in such conflicts and have been more fortunate so far. But they don't get to enjoy their families and do fun things like we do. Sure, they may get home eventually to return to a normal existence, but those family days lost are lost forever. For example those that will not be home this Christmas can never get that home time back.
In summary, many of those who lost their lives during World War era times did not have much of a choice. In these modern times an individual usually is able to choose whether they want armed forces as a career. It's a good thing some people make the choice to serve. Where would we be if no one volunteered for the job?
I will wear my red poppy proudly every year, and support the men and women in our forces any way I can. I don't like war either, but it will never go away - the structure and beliefs of the world’s population won't let it.
