You Don't Need Safety At Christmas

You often hear about people's misfortunes and wonder why they happened, or how a person could do such a thing. This afternoon I was directed to look out my window.

A fine snow had just begun with moderate winds. When I looked out I observed a man on a roof installing Christmas lights along the edge of his roof along the eaves trough. The roof was more than two thirds snow covered and the gentleman was wearing sneakers/running shoes.

I was told by another observer that he already slipped once and almost lost it. There was no one else around to keep an eye on him, no security of any kind, just this person by himself sitting or standing near the edge of the snow covered roof in running shoes during gusty winds.

For the next hour or so I kept listening for the sound of sirens. Fortunately I believe the venture was successful for I heard no such sounds, and the roof is now empty except for a single row of led lights across the two storey eaves.

It reminded me of a few years ago when I noticed a man working under a car held up by a single bumper jack. These were both family men with kids. You just wonder what makes them tick.
