Advertisement Flyers

Some time ago I wrote about advertising flyers being delivered to our home in various locations. Sometimes they are found out by the sidewalk, in the middle of the driveway, in the flower garden, in the middle of the lawn, and on rare occasions on the front step.

This past week the local council brought up this very subject because people began complaining that these home delivered packages of flyers have become litter. When you have to hunt around to find them, I can understand that, and even those responsible for distributing the flyers place the blame on the delivery person(s).

It was also mentioned in the media some people enjoy getting the flyers and brochures to browse through the sales, while others despise them as junk mail.

reading To tell the truth, I enjoy some of the sales flyers that arrive. Some are in the junk category. For example, Canadian Tire, Future Shop, Staples and a couple of the grocery store ones usually catch my attention weekly. The rest I may or may not look at them depending on the mood at the time. I am sure you have different interests.

This morning as I grabbed my coffee and sat down at the laptop as I do nearly every day the thought struck me how much our daily routines have changed.

Most of you have seen that cartoon, "I love my computer because all my friends are in there." How true that is, using myself as example, I have several email addresses to check, read the news and weather online, fire up Messenger, make some phone calls on Skype, do many business things online, and on it goes. That is part of daily life now.

How could we (especially me), do without the internet and all its communications capabilities? It would be difficult to go back to the former ways of doing things.

So I was thinking, why can't flyers be online. It would save a lot of paper, and I wouldn't have to hunt through thorny rose bushes to find them. Sure they 'are' all online, but you have to click to multiple sites to read them, and even multiple clicks to get to the actual flyer.

Well guess what? After doing a little search I found they are online. Take SmartflyerCanada.com, a site where all the flyers are listed. and you can find the flyers of your choice easily. I am sure there is an equivalent for your area by doing a little searching.

Under "The eFlyers+" tab you can find most all of them listed. With a couple of clicks and entering your postal code you are taken directly to the flyer that serves your local area.

I think this is a neat idea that is not 'advertised' enough. Now I don't care whether they ban them or not. I don't care if they are stuck in the bush. Mind you it puts people out of a job who deliver flyers, but then again it didn't look like they cared anyway or I wouldn't find them in the middle of the driveway underneath the truck.
